Gum Grafting in Orléans

WHEN GUMS PULL BACK

Receding gums are more common than many people realize. Sometimes it runs in families. Sometimes it’s from brushing too hard, or from orthodontic treatment years earlier. Whatever the cause, the result is the same — roots get exposed, teeth look longer, and hot or cold drinks can sting. That’s when a graft may be suggested.

WHAT A GRAFT INVOLVES

The idea is simple: add tissue where the gum has worn away. The tissue might come from the roof of the mouth, or from prepared donor material. Once placed, it’s secured and left to heal over the exposed area. Over time, the gum strengthens and covers the root again.

WHAT IT FEELS LIKE

The procedure is done with local anesthetic, so you won’t feel pain while it’s happening. Some soreness afterward is normal, especially if tissue is taken from your own palate. Most patients say it’s manageable with rest, soft foods, and the instructions we give before you leave.

WHY IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

A graft does more than improve appearance. It protects roots from decay, makes brushing easier, and cuts down on sensitivity. It also helps keep teeth more secure for the long run.
